Moscow 1980 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony of the Moscow 1980 Olympic Games had all the elements expected from the opening of the Olympic Games. The Olympic flag was brought in to the Olympic Stadium and the final torchbearers running the relay in the stadium.

The former three time Olympic medallist Sergei Belov from the USSR basketball team was the final torchbearer, and, therefore had the honour to light up the Olympic Cauldron.

Also during the Moscow 1980 Games Opening Ceremony, the world got to know Mischa, the mascot for that edition of the Games, whose image was displayed through mosaics with the crowd at the stadium. Mischa's most remarkable moment was still to come at the Closing Ceremony.
